The Southern Police District headed by Police Brigadier Bernard R Yang, District Director, is fully prepared to ensure the safety and security of attendees at the Asia Pacific Ministerial Conference on Disaster Risk Reduction (APMCDRR 2024), which opens today, October 14 at the Philippine International Convention Center (PICC) until October 18, 2024.
In response to the significance of this international event, SPD has mobilized a dedicated team of 269 personnel. These police officers will be deployed across various key areas, including the Multi-Agency Coordinating Center (MACC), Police Assistance Desks, venue and perimeter security, and mobile patrols. Specialized units, including medical teams and EOD/K9 units, will also be present to ensure a comprehensive security approach.
Before the conference began, the SPD also attended series of critique sessions of STG Metro Manila Coordinating Conference for APMCDRR 2024 attended by various government agencies, where the SPD’s Security and Deployment Plan was presented. District Director/Commander, SSTG SOUTH APMCDRR 2024 PBGen Bernard R Yang and DDDO/Asst. STG Commander and Task Unit Security Commander Police Colonel Andres O Simbajon Jr. also conducted series of inspection of MACC and PICC areas to ensure readiness.
The APMCDRR 2024 conference, themed “Surge to 2030: Enhancing ambition in Asia-Pacific to accelerate disaster risk reduction,” provides a critical platform for reviewing risk reduction efforts, sharing innovative solutions, and making actionable commitments aimed at minimizing disaster risks by 2030 in one of the world’s most disaster-prone regions.
To ensure a zero-incident outcome during the event, PBGen Yang has instructed all personnel to remain vigilant at their posts and to support their fellow officers, particularly those assigned to Police Assistance Desks, billets, and route deployments. The goal is to maintain a zero-crime rate throughout the duration of the conference.
