On October 17, 2024 at 5:25 AM today, a suspect was apprehended for violating the gun ban at a checkpoint set up at Border Control Point (BCP) along Marcos Alvarez Avenue in Brgy. Talon 5, Las Piñas City.

Arrested was identified as alias Edward, a 48-year-old retired seaman, who was stopped by elements of Talon Substation 4 during routine checkpoint operations. Upon inquiry about the possession of a firearm, the suspect admitted to having a firearm and produced a Taurus pistol when requested. He was subsequently informed of his constitutional rights and charged with violating Republic Act 10591, pertaining to the Gun Ban and expired Permit to Carry Firearm Outside of Residence (PTCFOR).

Police Brigadier General Bernard R Yang, District Director, emphasized the importance of adhering to the gun ban, in connection with the Asia-Pacific Ministerial Conference on Disaster Risk Reduction (APMCDRR) 2024, which is in effect in the National Capital Region from 12:01 AM on October 13, 2024, until 12:00 midnight on October 18, 2024. He reminded the public that only law enforcement agencies on official duty and in uniform are permitted to carry firearms during this period.
